GEORGE P. SCOTLAN SCHOLARSHIP

Quinnolyn Benson-Yates
Quinnolyn graduated from Berkeley High School. Her grade
point average was 3.96 and SAT score was 2210. She has decided to attend UC Santa Barbara. Her proposed major is literature. Competitive in sports, she plays on a club soccer team. She also serves as a junior soccer coach for Albany Berkeley Soccer Club’s “under 5 camps”. She has served as a City of Berkeley Youth Commissioner for the past two years, Her service has been noted as the City’s Youth Commission has awarded her the Mayor’s Student Recognition Community Service Award, the Youth Commission’s Certificate of Appreciation Award and was selected to attend Camp Royal – Rotary’s Youth Leadership Award Conference.

Cody Dam
Cody graduated from Oakland High School with a 4,16 grade point average. He swam on the swim and volleyball teams and played club basketball for the Cultural Center. He is a member of the CA Scholarship Federation and is recognized by the National Honors Society for his excellence in Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. He also has Summa Cum Laude Honors for academic achievement above 4.0. He had a Head Royce Scholarship to its Summer Enrichment Program. He plans to attend UCLA and major in biology.

Laura McKinnon
Laura graduated from Holy Names High school with a grade point
average of 4.03 and an SAT score of 2030. She has been offered admission to several universities and has chosen Saint Mary’s College with a proposed major of Liberal & Civic Studies. Her community service experience displays several areas of working with young children which might lead to a career as an elementary school teacher. She also volunteered at the San Leandro Public Library, Washington Elementary School, Aurora Elementary School and the Church of the Assumption’s Vacation Bible School.

ANN AND JON REYNOLDS SCHOLARSHIP

Jennifer Au
Jennifer graduated from James Logan High School. She has been accepted at UC Berkeley, UCLA, Princeton and Columbia. Her proposed major is molecular biology. Her grade point average was 4.64 and her SAT score was 2180. She served as treasurer and president of Rotary-sponsored Interact. While at Logan, she participated in track and field. She was especially active in tutoring her peers in various subjects. Other community service efforts included the nearby Masonic Home of California, performing clerical work and assisting in the skilled Nursing program. She also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity East Bay and donated time to Union City performing clerical work.

Janae Chatmon
Janae graduated from Castro Valley High School with a 4.46 grade point average and a 1790 SAT score. She has been accepted for admission as USC, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis and UOP. Her proposed major is Biochemistry. She has had a successful high school track career and wants to be an obstetrician or general practitioner in the medical field. Community service during her high school years included Kid’s Movin Up where she played, fed and read to toddlers. She was also involved in events in support of awareness and donations for Cancer and Alzheimer’s in addition to participation within her church.

Victor Chu
Victor graduated from Encinal High School with a 4.44 grade point average and an ACT score of 29 with Honors each quarter. He was a four-year varsity badminton team member. His honors included the National Honor Society, AP Scholar and MESA Certificate. He plans to major in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Encinal Key Club, volunteered as a teacher’s assistant at the Chinese Presbyterian Church in Oakland and was a member of the Encinal High School Robotics Club.

Mika Matsuno
Mika attended Piedmont High School. She had a 4.24 grade point average and a 2220 SAT Super Score. She was a member of the softball team. Her considerable community service participation included Super Star Literacy of Oakland, a literacy intervention program for at-risk students, Save The Children; and as a costumer for the Oakland Ballet School’s Nutcracker
performances. She plans to attend Brown University and major in history and education studies.

Moniyka Sachar
Moniyka graduated from Irvington High School in Fremont with a 4.431 grade point average and a 2390 SAT score. Her high school athletic competition was in Cross Country. She has been offered admission to a number of universities. Her current plans are to enroll at Brown University in an eight-year medical program resulting in a BA and ultimately MD initials following her name. Her community service record is varied and impressive. It includes the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital, Tri-City Volunteers Food Bank, The Fit Kids Foundation, the Teens4Teens Health Foundation and the Don Edwards National Wildlife Reserve.

Cooper Weatherbee
Cooper is a graduate of Piedmont High School. His grade point average was
4.31 with an SAT score of 2370. He was a four-year member of the baseball team. He played for North Oakland/South Oakland baseball in summer league and was selected for the All-Star teams. He also played first trumpet in the school musicals and represented Piedmont High School in Worldstrides Heritage Music Festival in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. He is a National Merit Scholar and a member of the Piedmont High School Honor Society.
